Managing Director of SDKA Embarks on a 275km Charity Cycle Across Ireland with The Blazing Saddles

June 2024 – Ireland – In an inspiring display of endurance, Kunal Mehta, Managing Director of SDKA, recently completed a gruelling 275 km cycling journey over three days across Ireland. This remarkable feat was aimed at raising funds for four incredible charities: Seashell Trust, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Leukaemia Care UK, and Cancer Research UK.

Kunal is a member of The Blazing Saddles, a cycling group that came into existence during the height of the first lockdown in 2020. This group of close friends, initially novice cyclists, found themselves seeking a way to stay fit and connected. What began as a modest effort to get off the sofa quickly evolved into a passion, with the members steadily increasing their cycling distances amidst the scenic Cheshire countryside and embarking on annual rides to raise vital funds for various charities. This recent adventure was the fourth charity ride for the group having raised over £125,000 for charity so far.

Kunal commented “Training for this cycling challenge has been incredibly tough, but the dedication and camaraderie of this fantastic group of friends keep us going. We’re raising funds for four amazing charities, the remarkable work these organisations do inspires us every day. The support and donations we receive mean the world to us and will make a huge difference. Thank you!”

The challenge commenced as the team flew to Cork, setting the stage for their journey through the Munster region to the charming town of Killarney. The first day served as a “leg warmer,” with a scenic ride around Lough Leane, from which the River Laune flows towards The Dingle Peninsula.

Day two saw the cyclists tackling the Wild Atlantic Way from Killarney to Tralee. Known for its breathtaking yet demanding landscape, the route features cascading cliffs and steep inclines, testing the riders with over 125 km of cycling and an elevation gain exceeding 1400 metres.

The final day from Tralee to Limerick was arguably the toughest, covering 128 km. This leg included the stunning yet challenging black cliffs of Ballybunion, culminating in a triumphant finish in Limerick.

Kunal’s dedication to this cause underscores his profound commitment to making a difference and aligns with the mission of his company SDKA to support the local community and contribute to a sustainable future. “The journey was challenging but incredibly rewarding,” he remarked. “Knowing that our efforts are supporting such vital organisations gave us the motivation to push through each tough mile.”

The funds raised will significantly benefit the chosen charities:

  • Seashell Trust: Providing education and care for children and young adults with complex learning disabilities and communication difficulties.
  • Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital: Offering specialist healthcare services to children across the North-West and beyond.
  • Leukaemia Care UK: Supporting patients and families affected by leukaemia with information, emotional support, and financial assistance.
  • Cancer Research UK: Leading pioneering research to find new ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer.

Kunal and The Blazing Saddles have demonstrated that with determination and camaraderie, even the most daunting challenges can be overcome. Their journey is a testament to the power of community, fitness, and a shared goal of supporting invaluable causes.
